For the first time in five years, my Eagles are playing in the Super Bowl, and just like last time, it’s against the most consistently great team in football the last few seasons. Though I whiffed on my Chiefs-Bengals prediction, so did two-thirds of “experts”, and I’ll have a winning record coming out of these playoffs no matter what happens tomorrow. The thought of playing Kansas City with a healthier Patrick Mahomes is admittedly more scary than playing Joe Burrow’s Bengals, but I still have the Eagles taking care of business in The Big Game. The Chiefs had the best offense in the regular season with an average of 29.2 points per game, but the Eagles weren’t far behind, ranked third with 28.1 points per game. Our defense, meanwhile, was 1.5 points per game better than theirs, and as a unit was much better overall. Our team had 70 sacks compared to Kansas City’s 55, and having a defense that knows how to get to the quarterback is critical to stopping Chiefs teams led by Mahomes, as Tampa Bay showed us in 2021 against a fully healthy Mahomes. OddsShark currently has Philly as a 1.5 point favorite after they opened as a 1 point favorite. With betting being legalized in more states, I’m sure more money will be wagered on this game than any other game in sports history when all is said and done, so I’m happy most of that money is going to the Birds, and I believe that it will be money well spent. I’m not going to update my betting page because I don’t feel like it, but I am going to post the picks by the “experts” with the highest winning percentages on the season here so I can properly name and shame on Monday.
Mark Kaboly (The Atlantic) – Chiefs 👎🏾
Jamey Eisenberg (CBS Sports) – Chiefs 👎🏾
Jeff Ratcliffe (FTN Fantasy) – Chiefs 👎🏾
Eric Thompson (Daily Norsemen) – Chiefs 👎🏾
Chris Pokorny (Dawgs By Nature) – Eagles 👍🏾
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) – Eagles 👍🏾
Doug Burrell (Gridiron Experts) – Eagles 👍🏾
Nate Davis (USA Toda) – Chiefs 👎🏾
So there’s a lot of red at the top among “experts” who have gotten at least two thirds of their predictions right, but it’s like they say: the higher you are, the harder you fall, and these lucky sports writers, just like Mahomes when our defense gets its hands on him, will be taking some big falls tomorrow night.
