Something miraculous has happened in the betting odds: Joel Embiid is now the favorite to win the NBA’s top prize. Even a couple of days ago, Jokic seemed to be the clear favorite to threepeat, but Denver’s recent tailspain combined with the tear we’ve been on where we’ve won eight straight and taken the 2 seed in an Eastern Conference that is clearly better than the West this year has not gone unnoticed, thankfully. Embiid is dominating headlines the same way he’s been dominating teams lately, setting a Sixers record by scoring 30 or more points in nine consecutive games and breaking poor Rick Carlisle while doing it. I was burned when predicting Jalen Hurts would win MVP for the Eagles due to him missing games with injury down the stretch but as long as Embiid stays healthy and continues doing what he’s doing, even if we don’t win every single game as he does it, he should lock up the MVP as voters flee from two-time winners Jokic and Giannis and finally give Embiid the recognition he and Sixers fans everywhere have been craving. That’s not the ultimate goal for this season, but it would still be really, really sweet to see.
